What is the Primary Library at EAST doing to ensure that we comply with COVID19 requirements when we return to campus in August 2020?

UPDATED MAY 21

Answer

We are encouraging students to borrow and take home books, we have made some small changes to ensure that we all stay safe and well.

The Library Timetable is here. Where possible we have timetabled up to two classes per session with a staggered start time. The classes must be from the same grade. Please arrive at your designated time or let the library staff know via ASK LibChat if you can't make it.

If the library is booked for classes please DO NOT send casual visitors to the library. Please use ASK LibChat to check the status of the library with the staff

The library can only have 40 visitors (revised May 21) plus the permanent staff inside during non-scheduled class time. Using the counter to check in and out is important. Any visitors (other than UWCSEA East Staff) that are not with attending during a booked session will need to sign in on arrival. For example, students particularly at lunch & break.

A member of the library staff will be at the door to help with returns, counter and hand sanitising

Some important reminders:

The quarantine of books has been suspended as of 20 April 21

Returning books:

ALL books that have been taken home must be returned to the library (including class library books and readers). They will be ‘quarantined’ for 24 hours before being returned to your classroom or you can collect them from the library.

Books must be placed in a trolley that is at the front door or deposited through the return slot to minimise handling.

N.B. The National Library Board of Singapore has no official statement on quarantining books.

Read this article about COVID19 and surface transmission for more information.

Books that you want to keep in your classroom:

If students return books from home that you wish to keep in your classroom for a while longer, please put these books into a tub or cupboard and do not allow them to be touched for 2 full days.

You can then allow them to be used as you normally would again.

Inside the library:

Everyone must remain 1m apart

Students can self-circulate using the Destiny app on iPads

Once chosen, borrow immediately then sit down to read

If not borrowed by the end of the session, there is no further opportunity to borrow

Need to change something?

Please let us know if you are not coming so that we can reallocate the space if needed. Use ASK to contact us

If there is an empty slot on the library timetable and you would like to bring your class to the library, or send up to 5 students to the library you are welcome contact us on ASK - LibChat to check availability.

Break and Lunch

The library will be open to 40 students from designated grades (see library timetable) if they need to change a book or you feel they need a place to relax please send them and we will welcome them, subject to availability. Students attending at a teachers request will be given preference. Once inside the library students are expected to remain here for the whole break to assist with tracking.

Before and after school

The library is closed before school and open after school to students who have registered their attendance with the Activities Department.

Ramadan

Please ask the library staff - there are designated rooms set aside  at lunch & break for students who are fasting.
